Have your say: Planning for land management
We need our land and soils to stay healthy and productive, as everything else in our region—from biodiversity to business—relies on the land. The better we manage the land, the better it’ll be for our people, livestock, crops and nature. Over 80% of land in the Northern Gulf is currently used for grazing livestock.
The health of our land (or land condition) has decreased significantly right across our region, with total productivity reduced by 30% between 2002 and 2016. If this trend continues—if we don’t change our land management practices—our region is on track to lose 50% of its potential grazing capacity by 2046.
This issue is ranked as one of our highest priorities for natural resource management (NRM) across the Northern Gulf region.
