Free Disaster Planning

Gulf Savannah NRM is offering free disaster risk planning to extensive grazing properties in Etheridge, Croydon and Carpentaria Shires.

The service helps landholders prepare for the worst by providing free property-specific maps and plans for fire, flood and other disasters. The mapping also highlights infrastructure, vegetation, and assets, including fencing and water points.

Resilient Futures Project Officer Vickie Mylrea said the initiative will increase property owners’ preparedness and resilience to natural disasters.

‘The start of the process is us coming out to your place to better understand your individual situation. This involves talking to you about your property, infrastructure and past disasters that have impacted the area.

‘The completed plan will rate your current disaster risk and give recommendations as well as providing historical flood, fire and cyclone data,’ she said.

Contact Gulf Savannah NRM if you would like a free disaster plan and property maps — by emailing Vickie.mylrea@gulfsavannahnrm.org or calling 4092 1088.

This project received grant funding from the Australian Government.
