A Heartfelt Thank you to Ellen Weber

Today, we recognise Ellen Weber’s remarkable 12 years of service on the Gulf Savannah NRM Board, including six years as Chair.

Ellen has been part of our organisation through an important period of change, from our days as Northern Gulf Resource Management Group to the organisation we are today. Her commitment and leadership have helped guide our work supporting healthy landscapes, resilient industries and thriving communities across the Northern Gulf.

On behalf of our Board and staff, thank you, Ellen, for the time, care and dedication you have given to Gulf Savannah NRM and our region. Your contribution is valued, and we wish you all the very best for the future.

We are also delighted to announce Tim Wong as the incoming Chair of Gulf Savannah NRM.

Tim is an experienced natural resource management professional with a 25-year work history spanning state, national and international roles. Tim spent seven years as CEO of ACT NRM (Australian Capital Territory) focused on sustainable agriculture, biodiversity and biosecurity programs. As part of this role, Tim represented the ACT on a national working group with other State and Territory representatives to support national NRM strategy and governance issues.

Tim joined the Gulf Savannah NRM Board as a Director in January 2026 and now takes on the role of Chair. In addition to his extensive experience in regional NRM delivery in Australia including contributing to strategy and advocacy, Tim has undertaken formal board governance training, and spent many years working with and supporting Boards and advisory committees.

Tim currently works for the Wet Tropics Management Authority in Cairns, where his work includes conservation planning and on-ground programs to support the management of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. His work has a strong focus on collaboration with traditional owner organisations, disaster resilience and climate change adaptation, environmental markets, and regulatory frameworks.

Tim is looking forward to supporting Gulf Savannah NRM’s work with landholders, Traditional Custodians, industry, government and regional communities to maintain healthy landscapes and build a resilient future for the Northern Gulf.

Please join us in thanking Ellen for her service and welcoming Tim to the role!
